Running is by far one of the best total body workouts you
can engage in. It has been known to prevent disease, relieve stress, boost your
immune system, and of course, aid in weight loss.
Unfortunately, some of us just can’t get past the actual,
well, movement of running. The idea of this arduous activity feeling too much
like a chore outweighs all of those benefits you just read about.
This is why we’re here to help. Here are 5 ways you can learn
to love running… maybe just a little.
Start Out Slow
In this case, slow and steady really does win the race.
Often times when people start out running, they want the results of running as
quickly as possible. But essentially, all that does is cause injury, either
right away or in the long run. Not only that, but your workouts will be much
shorter. Start off at a nice jog and eventually work your way up.
Make a Running
Music is one of the best motivators to workout. Make a
playlist with any and every song that motivates you, and make sure to update it
Keep Track of Your
Fitness apps, such as myLiveLight, not only keep track of
your progress for you, but they sync to your exercise equipment, such as a
Yowza Daytona. Or, get a calendar and write down how far and how long you ran
each day. Seeing your progress over time will keep you going and setting higher
goals for yourself.
Enjoy Your “Me” Time
One of the things that keeps me going when I run is enjoying
the time for myself. There’s nothing better than an hour of simply listening to
music, clearing your head, and burning some calories while you’re at it.
Running also releases endorphins that lift your mood, and above all, it’s a
huge confidence booster. It’s a win-win all around.
…But Sometimes, Get a
I say “sometimes” because I know from personal experience,
sometimes we rely too much on that workout buddy. But if you have a friend who
has similar goals to yours, see when your schedules coordinate to run together,
either outside or on your at-home equipment. Just don’t choose the friend who’d
influence you to go get pizza instead!
Running can be one of the most fulfilling aspects of your
fitness life if you switch your attitude towards it a bit. Once you look at it
for not only all of it’s health benefits, but as a little something you do for
yourself, you’ll find yourself wondering how you ever lived without it.
